Discusses the treatment of a 23-yr-old Arab female coed by a Jewish trainee and a phantom cotherapist using a modified dialectical therapeutic approach. Although the supervisor-cotherapist participated in only 3 of 33 sessions, his presence was felt throughout therapy and his impact on the therapeutic process was significant. This was achieved by the therapist frequently "conjuring him up" when she felt frustrated or overwhelmed by the patient.
