Describes work carried out in United Nations centers for children with physical and mental disabilities among Palestinian refugees living in Jordan. The contributions occupational therapy can make in such a cultural environment and the problems it has to face are discussed. Mime is focused on as an activity for overcoming difficulties with language and expression. Mime is generally stimulating, independent of cultural background, and useful when a language barrier would be a problem. Mime can be used to establish interaction between the therapist and the children and to improve children's motor skills and mental abilities (e.g., concentration, imagination, memory).
