Studied the correlation of attributional styles, self-esteem, and depression to specific dimensions of parental practices. Results are discussed within a reformulated model of learned helplessness and depression, and within the context of the literature on perceived control. Human Ss: 336 normal male and female adolescents (high school juniors). Ss were randomly selected from the 3 largest schools in Amman, and were equally representative of scientific track and literary track students. Ss were administered an Arabic version of Shaefer's Children's Reports of Parental Behavior Inventory (shortened by E. Schluderman and S. Schluderman, 1979), an Arabic Attributional Styles Questionnaire by M. E. Seligman, and a Depression Adjective Checklist.
