Forty depressed patients were studied, twenty of them (all females) presented with typical major depression, and the other twenty patients (19 females and one male) presented with atypical depression. A statistical significant increase of serum prolactin level was found in major depressives when compared to both atypical depressives and control groups (twenty females). A positive correlation was found between the number of recurrences and serum prolactin levels in both depressive groups.
