Discusses Algerian concepts of the doctor-patient relationship and the representation and use of drug therapy, with reference to the mutual expectations of the doctor to cure the patient and of the patient to be cured. The socio-cultural effects of the introduction of modern medical methods in Algeria (including free medical care, increased access and use of medical care, and increased consumption of drugs with and without medical control) on the representation of the doctor-patient relationship in Algeria are also considered.
