The aim of this study was to estimate the knowledge of relatives living with a psychiatric patient about causes and manifestations of mental illness, as well as their knowledge about drugs prescribed for treatment and prognosis of mental illness. Ss were 150 family members of psychiatric patients. A questionnaire was structured and designed by the authors which consisted of questions related to the patient's diagnosis and treatment and information about the accompanying relative. The results of this study reflect the general view of patients' relatives about mental illness and their dearth of knowledge in this respect.
