Presents the case of a 35-yr-old woman and her 57-yr-old mother, both with bipolar manic-depressive illness. Chromosomal analysis revealed that the mother and daughter had an identical chromosomal constitution, with a deleted short arm of chromosome 21. This association may be purely coincidental; however, the clinical significance of this association is considered.
