Clinical presentation of depression in Algeria is conditioned by sociocultural factors. Corporal problems and persecutory themes are prevalent. Suicidal behaviors are also affected, such that young women are at very high risk, while among old people and during the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan, suicide virtually disappears. Treatment and prevention are made especially difficult due to the lack of human and material resources.
