Investigated the social representations of self-identity, the family, the past, the present, and the future among 218 6th-, 7th-, and 9th-grade Palestinian children (orphans and nonorphans) living in an environment of armed violence. Ss' representations appeared to be highly interrelated. The specificity of the situation was clearly not independent of the consensual and emotional aspects. A mixture of gender-related coping styles among orphans may be a symptom of the affective disturbance resulting from a trauma (loss of parents).
