Discusses counseling in terms of cultural conditions and problems encountered by Arab counselors. Developing non-Western nations use material goods and research findings and scientific theories produced by the more industrialized nations. Counseling is not automatically transferred among cultures, namely when vast cultural differences exist and the underlying cultural precepts are mirror opposites. As Western culture is not the universal culture, counseling methods based on Western philosophy may be inapplicable in non-Western nations. To be beneficial, counseling must be socially compatible and culturally acceptable.
