The cat of the post-partum is an evil that attacks mothers who have just given birth. To identify this phenomenon, we led discussions with about twenty women. At it is described, this state bears various symptoms : somatisations, agitations, sadness, and hallucinations. Based on some of the reasons relayed, some cases are the result of a strong psychological disturbance. The delivery is described in terms of shock and the cat associated with a jinn evil soul (black cat) which takes over the woman giving birth. The cure differs depending on the seriousness of the situation. In case of somatisations and depression, gauzes and inhalation plants are used, but in case of visions and madness more extreme rituals are carried out including : scarification, cauterization using the amputated leg of a cat or else by cutting the throat of a cat above the head of the woman delivering. As such, fear is cured by fear. The cat of the post-partum is a cultural metaphor that takes the blame off the mother for the rejection of her child or for all the disorders that she can be affected by.
