Replies to comments by J. Tayeb (see record 2004-17255-004) on the study by L. L. Amowitz et al (see record 2004-12391-006), which examined human rights abuse and concerns about women's health and human rights in southern Iraq. The prevalence of domestic violence in our population-based study should not be compared with the findings from emergency department, clinics, or outpatient settings since survivors of domestic violence are more likely to access such services, and, consequently, prevalence rates are generally higher in these sample populations. The most appropriate US points of reference to compare our study findings with are other lifetime prevalence rates.
