Ego-grasping (the opposite of having a Taoist attitude toward life), as measured by a 20-item true-false inventory, appears to be associated with higher state depression and trait-anxiety scores. This study explored correlates of scores on this inventory indicating an ego-grasping orientation with measures of psychopathology in samples of American and Kuwaiti students. Scores on the ego-grasping scale were associated with measures of psychopathology, the latter more strongly associated with ego-grasping scores for the American than the Kuwaiti sample.
