Drug addiction is a universal problem which has challenged human civilization throughout history. The negative effects of addiction on people's social and emotional life and health have been confirmed by many studies. This study aims to provide an indication of the level of depression, stress and anxiety experienced by addicts in comparison with non-addicts in Kuwaiti society. Spielberger's State-Trait Inventory for anxiety adapted by Abdel-Khalek (1992), Beck's Depression Inventory, and Rosenberg scale for self-esteem adapted by Al-Khawaja were administered to 49 addicts, and a 49 control group. The results showed that there is a correlation between drug addiction and level of depression and anxiety. When addicts scored higher on both scales, a negative correlation was also found between self-esteem and addiction.
