This survey study aims at exploring the causes that lead to bringing in the elderly to nursing homes and finding out the problems that they endure, from their own perspective. The study covered all elderly residents in the UAE (except 66 cases not included for their health problems). The study has reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which is that inability of the elderly to serve themselves besides their isolation from others. These are the major causes behind their transfer to nursing homes. The study showed also that the socio-psychological problems, particularly the elderly's sadness and depression that are caused by their thinking & feeling toward their loved-ones, are considered the main reason for pain at nursing homes. Besides health problems, aging is considered a second major problem. Providing services, from the viewpoint of subjects, was not considered an essential issue.
