Explores the need for psychosocial and mental health work in long-term refugee situations. A brief history is given of the Sudanese refugees in northern UgandThe discussion focuses on the Transcultural Psychosocial Organization's (TPO)-Uganda program. In order to establish the program, a psychosocial and mental health needs assessment was conducted to determine its viability. It was found that the psychosocial needs problems and needs of the change over time. It is concluded that the interventions should consist of integrating tradition, religious and community methods with TPO-Uganda help. An overview is given of the program's goals, philosophy, structure, staffing and operations.
