The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (DEQ) on a sample of Jordanian college students (140 males, 391 females) at Yarmouk University, Jordan. The final translated version of the DEQ and the other measures were administered to Ss in their regular classes. Factor analysis of the scale yielded 3 components, Self Criticism, Dependency, and Efficacy. The DEQ data were found to have adequate internal consistency and item-total correlations. The test-retest reliability coefficients were relatively high. Significant correlation was found between the scale and measures of other conceptually related variables such as depression, self-esteem and loneliness as a concurrent validity. The results provide evidence supporting the reliability and validity of the scale and suggest that the Arabic version of the DEQ possesses acceptable psychometric properties for Jordanian college students. Findings are discussed and recommendations suggested.
