Examined the construction and reliability of the Arabic version of the Beck Anxiety Inventory (T. Beck and R. Steer, 1990, BAI), and anxiety levels in university students in the United Arab Emirates. 240 university students (mean age 20.0 yrs) were administered the translated Arabic BAI. Results were compared with those of Lebanese and Canadian students from previous studies. Results show that the Arabic BAI scale demonstrated internal reliability consistent with Lebanese and Canadian samples. Female Ss scored similarly to Lebanese females, but significantly higher than males and Canadian females. All Arab Ss scored significantly higher than Canadian students. Ss scored significantly higher for the panic subscale than Lebanese students, but had similar responses for neurophysiological, subjective, and autonomic subscales of the BAI. Findings suggest that Arab students have more anxiety than Canadian students, and that the Arabic version of the BAI is reliable.
