Les psychoses aigues nuptiales: A propos de 16 observations. = Psychosis precipitated by marriage: About 16 cases.

Conducted a retrospective study of acute psychotic disorders precipitated by marriage in 16 Ss in TunisiSs were 12 males and 4 females aged 17-37 yrs who had just married for the 1st time. Ss were from a rural or semirural environment and had completed primary school. 62.5% of Ss had no psychiatric history. Acute psychosis appeared during the 1st wk of marriage in most cases and in the days or week preceding the marriage in the other cases. The most common clinical signs were delirium (68%), psychomotor agitation (68%), confusion (50%), anxiety (43.7%), dissociation (37.5%), and euphoria (31%). Schizophreniform disorder (43.7%) and brief psychotic disorder with marked stress (37.5%) were the most prevalent diagnostic categories. The cultural origins of these disorders are examined.
