After a review of literature on the relationships between war stress and psychological impairment, the author presents the findings of three studies conducted in Beirut. Although the sample is comprised of both men and women, this paper focuses on the impact of stressful life events on women with its subsequent health outcome. The first study examined a community sample, the second focused on patients seeking psychiatric care, and the third, a traumatized sample with community controls.
