Investigated whether there were differences between males and females in depression, hopelessness, and suicide ideation. The Beck Depression Scale, The Hopelessness Scale, and Suicide Ideation Scale were administered to 162 males and 162 females (aged 17-24 yrs). Findings show that the degree of suicide ideation increases by the effect of both depression and helplessness in both gender groups. No significant differences between males and females were found in depression, hopelessness, and suicide ideation. After controlling for hopelessness scores, the relationship between depression and suicide ideation scores remarkably decreased in magnitude for females only. While the relationship between hopelessness and suicide ideation was not moderated after controlling for depression in both gender groups.
