Prevalence of obsession-compulsion among Kuwaiti children

Administered an Arabic Obsessive Compulsive Scale to investigate the mental structure of obsessive compulsive disorder among a group of 398 Kuwaiti children (200 boys and 198 girls). This study aimed to explore the differences between boys and girls on the scale of obsessive compulsive disorder. Principal component analysis was used to extract the principal factors. The results of the principal component analysis indicate a 12-factor (axis) model, with the 1st 4 factors carrying different weights. The 12 factors are: (1) obsessive ideas, (2) doubt everything, (3) optimism, (4) decision, (5) preoccupation by the details, (6) obsession, (7) compulsive, (8) repetitive act without goals, (9) undecided, (10) extreme organized behavior, (11) obsessive doubt, and (12) precision. The results also show that girls scored higher on obsessive compulsive disorder than boys. Results are discussed in terms of cultural construals of self and theories of personality.
