Investigated the relations between hypochondriacal disorder and defense mechanisms among 240 university students in Qatar. The study attempted to validate the Adult Hypochondria Scale. The scale went through some procedures testing its reliability and validity. The final form, which comprised 23 items, had acceptable retest reliability and factor validity. Positive and negative correlations were found between hypochondria and defense mechanisms among the 4 subsamples of the study. Three factors were extracted: defense mechanisms, withdrawal and suppression, and illness pretension.
