Reports the case of a female 46-yr-old with hypothyroidism and shows the wide range of psychiatric presentations and social consequences resulting. The S was misdiagnosed as having psychotic depression for 12 years. The relationships between hypothyroidism and hyperprolactenemia, quick response to replacement therapy and the importance of considering this disorder in the differential diagnosis, especially of atypical psychiatric disorders, are discussed.
