Defines autism, and provides a summary of important benchmarks in the history of research on the disorder. The purpose of the article is to review progress in the provision of services for autistic children in Kuwait. Governmental and nongovernmental entities that serve children and adults with special needs are reviewed, followed by a focus on the 2 special schools that make specific provision for the education of autistic children. Other topics discussed include screening benefits and problems, social class factors in the epidemiology of autism, legislation, funding, the use of drug therapy, and areas of focus for future research
