Covariance modeling techniques were used to test the assumption of cultural group invariance on the Brown Locus of Control Scale (BLOCS; see record 71-03918). A sample of 150 Kuwaiti adult women were selected for study. Data were compared to BLOCS normative data from American adult women. Results provide support for the hypothesis that the validity of the locus of control construct could be generalized to different cultural groups with some caveats. Researchers using instruments developed in one setting need to be aware that variables may not generalize to a distinctly different religious or cultural setting. Whereas the BLOCS dimensions Internal, External Social, and External Other were identifiable with the present sample, they were not orthogonal as established in American samples.
