Describes the history of psychiatric services in Jordan for the past 50 yrs in light of political and sociological conditions in the region, namely the "Palestinian problem." A plan is described for the development of psychiatric services in the coming 2 decades. The author feels that the maximum degree of care can only be offered at the community, or primary care, level.
