Evaluated the sociocultural influences on sexual anxieties and associated dysfunction in Arab married couples. During a 1 yr period, sociodemographic and medical data were collected from all cases of psychogenic dysfunction visiting a clinic. 38 males with erectile dysfunction (ED, aged 20-68 yrs) and ejaculation disorder (EJ, aged 29-62 yrs) and 5 females with vaginismus (VG) and dyspareunia were identified. Results show that 23 males were extremely anxious, agitated and depressed and 6 reported attacks of severe suicidal ideations generated by their intensive fear of losing potency. EJ Ss were older than ED Ss, and were married for longer durations. The outcome of treatment was impressive in case of Ss with ED and VG, but poor in EJ Ss. It is believed that the high frequency of ED among Arab Ss was due to severe performance anxiety attached to the physical potency of males and their fertility.
