Interviewed 100 consecutive epileptic patients (aged 16-71 yrs) and their families, shortly after the 1991 Persian Gulf war, regarding their epileptic attacks before and during the war. Eight Ss reported increased seizure frequency. These Ss were younger than the other patients, the majority showed generalized epileptic EEG activity, and all 8 had generalized seizures. Only 4 Ss had seizures directly related to the sounding of an alarm and in the others, being off medication at the time and disturbed sleep were probably contributory factors. Results show that precipitation of seizures is weakly associated with an acute external emotional stress factor.
