Compared house-tree-person (HTP) drawings of 2 groups of 10-yr-old children living in contrasting environments. One group was from rural Ireland and the other from urban Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman. Both these sets of drawings were compared with those from 16 Irish university students. Since there was more variation within each sample than between samples it was surmised that there is a prototypical house and tree and that the variations found in individual drawings are likely to be indicative of personality variables. This suggests that the HTP test has validity as a projective technique.
