Using a standardized Arabic version of the Death Anxiety Scale with 214 male and 214 female Egyptian university students, 5 factors were extracted that corresponded to those reported by R. Lonetto and D. I. Templer (1986) for other cultures; these factors were labeled as (1) thoughts of death, (2) pain of death, (3) death preoccupation, (4) shortness of life, and (5) apprehension about the future. Women scored significantly higher in death anxiety than did men.
