The reliability and validity of the translated short version of the Connors Rating Scale

The purpose of this study was to estimate the reliability and validity of the Arabic translation of the short version of the Conners Teacher or Parent Rating Scales. These scales are used as general screening tests for behavior problems, to identify hyperactive children, and to assess the response of symptoms to drug treatment. Parents and teachers were requested to rate 128 school children on the 10-item scale and to rate their school achievements. Item reliability/analysis revealed high scale reliability for both forms, but the validity of the scale was found to be low. The findings confirm previous reports that the scale should only be used as 1 part of the total assessment of the child
