IDRAAC and the Lebanon Wars
In solidarity with our community which has been deeply affected by the recent war events that started in July 2006, the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at the St. George Hospital University Medical Center/Balamand University, Faculty of Medicine in association with IDRAAC has concentrated its efforts to help out on several fronts by offering free mental health consultations to individuals affected by these events and offering expert opinion through media. At the request of the government, the Department and IDRAAC have prepared a proposal for a National Mental Health Action Plan. The fifth EMACAPAP Research and Training Seminar in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Related Disorders The International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) and the Eastern Mediterranean Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (EMACAPAP) with the collaboration of First Step Together Association (FISTA) and the Institute for Development, Research, Advocacy and Applied Care (IDRAAC), the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at the St. George Hospital University Medical Center and the Balamand University Faculty of Medicine present the Fifth EMACAPAP Research and Training Seminar in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Related Disorders. This meeting will take place for the first time in Lebanon from the 19th to the 23rd of November, 2008 at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Beirut, Lebanon and is organized in association with the Lebanese Pediatric, Psychiatric and Psychological Societies.

IDRAAC’s research covers various topics in mental health such as temperament, the epidemiology of psychiatric disorders, the mental health consequences of war, alcohol and substance use and abuse, among many other topics. The meeting will be highlighting the following featured topics over the first two days of the congress (November 19 -20). - Making the diagnosis of ADHD in various age groups - Using rating scales and questionnaires for ADHD - Other disorders related to ADHD - Impact of ADHD across the lifespan - Adult ADHD - Psychological testing in evaluating ADHD and related disorders - Genetics of ADHD
Workshops are organized from November 21-23 on the following topics:
- Workshop I: Advanced Medical Management of ADHD (for physicians)
- Workshop II: Psychological and Educational Management of ADHD (for psychologists, educators and allied health professionals)
International speakers include Thomas Brown (USA), James Leckman (USA), Bennett Leventhal (USA), Tobias Renner (Germany) and Per Anders Rydelius (Sweden).
