IDRAAC organized a symposium: “Suicide in Lebanon: Where Are We?” in association with the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at the St Georges Hospital University Medical Center and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Balamand on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the Batlouni auditorium- University of Balamand facing St Georges Hospital University Medical Center Achrafieh from 8:30 AM-1:30 PM.
The symposium gathered around 180 attendees from different fields and 16 expert speakers around the subject who discussed the subject of suicide from different perspectives: mental health, governmental, legal, religious, academic and civil society.
A roundtable discussion also took place during that day where attendees got the chance to discuss the subject with the Director Generals of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior and representatives from religious authorities.
This symposium is hopefully a stepping stone to improve reporting and data-based reporting mechanisms in Lebanon related to suicide through evidence-based approaches and an important pillar in the analysis of the current status of suicide in Lebanon: its determinants, prevention mechanisms and diagnostic measures.
