The development and validation of an Arabic form of the STAI: Egyptian results.
Personality-and-Individual-Differences; 1989 Vol 10(3) 277-285
Conducted a study to develop and validate an Arabic version of the 1983 edition (Form Y) of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), which was administered to 1,443 Egyptian Ss. Cross-language equivalence of the original target languages of the STAI was run by the help of bilingual Ss. Coefficients of equivalence were 0.805 and 0.855 for the Anxiety State scale and 0.781 and 0.846 for the Anxiety Trait for 19 males and 52 females respectively, which were considered acceptable. One-week test-retest reliability and internal consistency coefficients measures were obtained. The validity of the Arabic STAI was adequately demonstrated in 5 different experiments. Specific expected relationships between the STAI and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire were found. Egyptian norms for 13 subgroups were determined.
